An awesome cycling experience through the beautiful town and
municipality of Alcoutim!
We suggest you start
the route at Alcoutim Castle and go south along the Guadiana river,
enjoying the stunning scenery along the river bank, with
Spain on the other side.
Follow down the river to the village of Montinho das Laranjeiras, where you can visit the Roman Villa and then to Guerreiros do Rio, where you may stop to visit the Museu do Rio (River Museum).
Follow down the river to the village of Montinho das Laranjeiras, where you can visit the Roman Villa and then to Guerreiros do Rio, where you may stop to visit the Museu do Rio (River Museum).
You may then take
two different routes to go back to the starting point at Alcoutim:
1. Go back through
the same route, if you are a occasional cyclist or looking for an
easy route (around 20 Kms total).
2. If you are
looking to adventure and do quite a few more Kms, choose to go through Corte das Donas, Corte TabeliĆ£o and then to Alcoutim (around 35 Kms). You
may choose the main road (see link for map below) or the many off-road paths along the way
(look a online map), which is only possible to do with a mountain
bike.
Before getting back to the starting point, and if the weather invites, we suggest a refreshing dip at the Pego Fundo river beach.
The views along any of the routes are simply breathtaking!
